Award Winning DOCUMENTARY FILMMAKER
About Jenifer
Jenifer McShane is an award-winning independent filmmaker committed to using film to bridge understanding in places where structural, cultural, religious, and social divisions often keep people apart.
Her newest documentary, The Quilters, follows a quilting group inside a men’s prison in Missouri and explores the power of art, dignity, and human connection in an unexpected setting. The film is now streaming on Netflix.
Jenifer is also the director of Ernie & Joe: Crisis Cops, an Emmy Award-winning HBO documentary about two San Antonio police officers working to change the way law enforcement responds to mental health crisis calls.
Her previous documentary, Mothers of Bedford, aired on PBS and follows incarcerated mothers at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility as they work to maintain relationships with their children. Jenifer spent years visiting the facility to tell this deeply human story of motherhood, incarceration, and resilience.
Across her body of work, Jenifer brings a compassionate and deeply observant lens to stories that are often overlooked, creating films that invite audiences to listen more closely, look more honestly, and connect more fully with the people at the heart of each story.
